Long Rosé Lunch at THE PIG-in the South Downs
THE PIG-in the South Downs | Monday 12 May 2025Join us to celebrate the long-awaited start of rosé season, with Helen McGinn and Sugrue South Downs!
£95 per person
Book NowNothing can compete with the golden point in the calendar year that tops them all… the moment you shed your extra layers, step outside and uncork the first chilled bottle of blushing pink rosé whilst feeling the warmth of the sun return to your skin. Rosé season is just around the corner – and that’s a serious cause for a celebration!
Opening the first perfectly chilled bottle of rosé is an occasion for pure pleasure. So, what better (or more PIG) way to relish it, than with a seriously long rosé lunch overlooking our very own verdant vineyard at THE PIG-in the South Downs?
Join us for fresh, plentiful platefuls of PIG summer dishes paired with perfectly chilled English rosé, hosted by our good friend and best-selling author, wine writer and broadcaster Helen McGinn, in conversation with the powerhouse winemaking duo, Dermot and Ana Sugrue of Sugrue South Downs.
You’ll relax over zesty, summer-inspired plates like Crispy Pork Cheek & Rhubarb Chutney and Fillet of Chalk Stream Trout with Chidham Asparagus & Hollandaise Sauce while the conversation, and the bottles, start flowing. Take a peek at the menu here.
Each summer-inspired course will be served with Sugrue wines, including their brand-new still English rosé: Dear Noodles 2023. Just 2,000 special bottles have been made of Dermot and Ana’s latest creation – and our Long Rosé Lunch will be the first (and only) time it is poured in a restaurant… so get it while you can!
When?

The first bottles will be popped at 12pm and, like all good long lunches, there’s no finish time! Our sunny outdoor terrace will be open after lunch, so you can keep the drinks flowing in the sunshine and really make the most of it.

Dermot & Ana Sugrue

Dermot and Ana Sugrue are two of the most successful and awarded winemaking rockstars on our home soil! They are the award-winning, boutique producers of English sparkling and still wines at Sugrue South Downs winery.
Sugrue South Downs was established in 2006 when Dermot, then head winemaker at Nyetimber, was approached by a monastic order of Catholic priests to plant a vineyard at Storrington Priory in West Sussex. The first release of Dermot’s own wine from this vineyard, ‘The Trouble with Dreams’, rapidly gained critical acclaim and cemented his reputation as one of England’s finest winemakers.
In 2021, Ana – a winemaker with experience working across four continents – joined Dermot full-time as fellow winemaker and sales director. Together with their small team of dedicated vineyard professionals, Dermot and Ana farm 11ha of exceptional, mature vineyards across the South Downs of East and West Sussex.
